Gateways/Crossroads
8.
34th Street and Powelton Avenue: $19,000 - $35,000
Description: The crossroads of a heavily pedestrian
street (Powelton Avenue) and vehicular street (34th Street); the geographic center
of the Powelton*Drexel community; highly visible to passersby and pedestrians, residents,
students, and commuters.
Design Benefit: Create a focal point that will invite
transient users to take advantage of the Powelton*Drexel neighborhood and thus benefit
the community.
9. Lancaster Avenue
between Powelton Avenue and 38th Street: $57,000 - $105,000
Description: Located on a primarily commercial street
at the edge of the commercial zone; intersection is highly visible and currently
very barren and unwelcoming.
Design Benefit: Work with surrounding institutions
to develop a palette of gateway features that will benefit vehicular and pedestrian
traffic travelling through Powelton Village. Landscape improvements may help to
expand the existing commercial zone north on Lancaster Avenue.
10. Lancaster Avenue/Race
Street and 36th Street: $24,000 - $44,000
Description: Commercial intersection mixed with university
student residents and some homeowners; residents frequently enter and exit Powelton
Village through this intersection.
Design Benefit: Accentuate a busy community crossroads
by installing a coordinated palette of landscape improvements. Several stakeholder
groups would benefit from redesign of this intersection; in addition new commercial
activity may occur, stimulating community growth.
11. 31st Street and
Spring Garden Street: $19,000 - $35,000
Description: The northeastern edge of the community;
intersection is a key location to persons traveling through the neighborhood to other
destinations and residents entering Powelton Village from the Schuylkill Expressway.
Design Benefit: Strengthen one of the weakest edges
of the community while implementing a design in a currently underutilized space.
