Green Spaces
5. Cochran
Memorial: $8,000 - $12,000
Description: Small fenced open space with memorial
and planting.
Design Benefit: Beautify an existing neighborhood
landscape feature near an important gateway to the community.
6. Community Garden:
$10,000 - $20,000
Description: Garden is the largest densely planted
'public' green space in the community; almost entirely worked and enjoyed by Powelton
neighbors; student use is less frequent, but the site is visually important to all
community residents.
Design Benefit: Establish a land trust or other means
of perpetual green space preservation to ensure continuity of the garden. Both Powelton
residents and Drexel students benefit from the visual and spiritual relief from the
urban environment offered by the garden.
7. 31st Street (east
side) from Powelton Ave. to Spring Garden St.: $270,000 - $360,000
Description: Edge of the community that is currently
an underutilized area with impressive views of the Center City skyline; heavily traveled
by vehicles and infrequently by pedestrians.
Design Benefit: Create a linear green space to be
used by pedestrians; strengthen the edge of the community which would invite visitors
to Powelton Village. Coordinate improvements with the West Bank Greenway.
