Streetscapes
1.
Powelton Avenue from Lancaster Avenue to 31st Street:
$840,000 - $1,200,000
Description: Traverses through a residential area
that is comprised of both Powelton residents and university students; some stores
exist but they are centered around two intersections; street is well traveled by
pedestrians and secondarily by vehicles.
Design Benefit: Create opportunities for the interface
between the students and Powelton residents; link the residential area to the commercial
zone on Lancaster and to the open space along the 31st/32nd Street
corridor; residents, students, and store owners would benefit.
2. Lancaster Avenue
from 34th Street to 38th Street: $360,000 - $480,000
Description: Commercial in character with some rental
properties and homeowners; well traveled primarily by vehicles including mass transit
and secondarily by pedestrians; commercial area services residents, students, and
visitors from outside the community.
Design Benefit: Invite motorists and pedestrians
to spend time and money on Lancaster Avenue, and subsequently to other Powelton neighborhood
destinations, with the installation of landscape improvements visible to a regional
audience.
3. 32nd Street (east
side) from Market St. to Powelton Ave.: $185,000 - $232,000
Description: The eastern edge of the Powelton neighborhood;
this corridor is heavily used by vehicles and secondarily by pedestrians; the street
is primarily a transition zone; not much time is spent along the corridor itself.
Design Benefit: Strengthen edge of Powelton Village
and make travel from Market Street to Powelton Avenue more pleasant; people outside
of the community, residents, and students would benefit. Coordinate with the West
Bank Greenway and Drexel's Facilities and Planning Department.
4. 34th Street and
33rd Street from Market Street to Powelton Avenue: $540,000 - $720,000
(and possibly to Spring Garden Street): $540,000 -
$720,000
Description: 34th Street is well traveled by both
vehicles (as a major commuter route) and pedestrians, with fewer pedestrians walking
between Spring Garden Street and Powelton Avenue; 33rd Street is a major pedestrian
thoroughfare for Drexel students to and from the campus core.
Design Benefit: Highlight and enhance intensely used
corridors and seize an opportunity to implement designs that relate to improvements
proposed in Drexel's master plan. Coordinate with Drexel University Facilities and
Planning Departments
