New technology starts with people not computers

Although the VIC Group provides services based on computer technology, we see ourselves more as facilitators and educators than technicians. We recognize that each municipality has different needs, interests, and resources and that the adoption of any new technology starts with people not computers. Therefore, we have spent as much time developing "process" as we have "product." Although we have developed some proprietary software for our company's use, most of the VIC creation process uses commercially available and familiar software packages that don't require programming expertise.

Demystify the "magical "computer process

Our uniquely-configured process to create a VIC allows the municipality (citizens and/or staff) to be involved with the conversion to VIC at every stage. We request important input and feedback at various points before the final product is delivered. We make every effort to "demystify" the process and avoid the "black box" approach to computer technology.

Opportunity to reevaluate quality of existing policies

The process of converting to a VIC format provides an excellent opportunity to reevaluate existing ordinances for consistency in organization, terminology, legal discrepancies and clarity of communication. We find that municipalities take advantage of this opportunity to at least identify problems or inconsistencies even if major revisions to the code are not planned.
